New Year New You

Why is it that everyone waits for the New Year to make changes in their lives?  It is hard enough to make major, or even minor, changes in your life.  Why in the world would you want to make it harder by making a BIG to do about it?
We are all messed up in some way or another and on some level it defines us.  It is important to help yourself all year.  Not just on the turn of a new one.  We all could use a bit of change for the better.  The trick is getting a change that is actually better.  Not one that others tell us we need to do.  When I say others, I include society.
I saw a store clerk the other day that looked so freakish that I had to fight to keep from staring at her.  She had HUGE breast implants and was sure to share them with everyone.  That really doesn’t bother me so much because I understand the motivation.
But when you couple it with silver sparkly eye shadow, false eyelashes (that fortunately looked good), and lips that looked akin to the comedic movies where some poor soul has inflated their lips to look like they got third degree burns from a curling iron in an effort to look younger or more attractive.  It equals freakish to me.
If you want to make a difference teach your children to love themselves while they are growing up and nurture the person they are inside.  If you do that we would have less overweight, alcoholic, smoking, hateful adults.  Find out what is important to you and work on that.  Remember not to hurt others while being true to your self though.  When I say that I mean the hard ass hurt like mame and murder or even deep psychological pain either.
I believe it starts while we are young and we only get over the problems we have if we work on it all the time not for a week or a month at the beginning of a New Year.
